The Milford Performance Center will be completing a successful 2017 with a BANG! The MPC will be bringing 4 International Smooth Jazz Stars to our stage for our Holiday Show featuring Special EFX with Chieli Minnucci and special guest artists Jackiem Joyner, Cindy Bradly and Richie Cannata.
Guitarist, composer, arranger Chieli Minucci is the longtime leader of the Grammy-nominated jazz-fusion group SPECIAL EFX, featuring Chieli Minucci, a major force on the jazz and world music scene for 35 years. Besides writing and performing his own music, Chieli shares his guitar brilliance throughout the entertainment world. He has recorded and performed with many top artists, such as Celine Dion, Lionel Richie, Jennifer Lopez, Jewel, Mark Anthony, Michael Bolton, Anastasia, as well as jazz artists Kirk Whalum, Jeff Lorber, Norman Brown, Bernie Williams, Marion Meadows, Lao Tizer, Mindi Abair, Rick Braun, Gerald Veasley, Omar Hakim, and many others.
Although renowned in the jazz and pop world, Chieli is also a gifted television and film composer. He has won 3 Emmy Awards and been nominated 10 times for his eclectic compositional work. His music can also be heard on the soundtracks of the films Bowfinger, Legally Blonde, Panic, and others. Chieli’s original scoring work can be heard in live stage productions of Peter Pan, Dora the Explorer, Thomas the Tank Engine, and others. Chieli Minucci & Special EFX released their 35th anniversary CD in spring of 2017, entitled, “Deep as the Night”.
At the young age of 21, Jackiem Joyner became the saxman for Marcus Johnson. In 2007, under the Artizen Record Label Jackie released his debut album “BabySoul”. The first single “Stay With Me tonight” featured guitarist Peter White and reached #17 on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz Charts. In 2008, Jackie Joyner was featured on the cover of BMG magazine and he has been a regular at the top of the Billboard Charts at # 1 and 2 regularly since.
Joyner has also been on tour with the notable jazz pianist, Keiko Matsui from Tokyo, Japan. Keiko Matsui has released more than twenty albums in the United States alone. In touring with his own band and sometimes with Keiko, he has performed in many jazz clubs, jazz festivals, theaters, and philharmonic halls sometimes with up to a 50- to 100-piece orchestra. He has performed in many countries including Germany, South Africa, Japan, Russia, Ukraine, Lithuania, Belarus, Azerbaijan and more.
Cindy Bradley has blossomed into a powerful and charismatic presence on the contemporary jazz festival circuit, with 7 #1 Billboard singles along the way. Cindy has performed everywhere from the River Raisin’ Jazz Festival in Monroe, Michigan to the Dubai Jazz Fest. She won Best New Artist at the American Smooth Jazz Awards, Brass Player of the Year at the Contemporary Jazz Awards, and was named Debut Artist of the Year by the Catalina Island Jazz Trax Festival and Smooth Jazz News. She currently has the #3 Billboard Jazz single.
Cindy has also applied her skills and background in a way to inspire future generations. She has conducted hundreds of jazz workshops at high school and community colleges all over the country. “These workshops are a way of giving back to the community,” she says. “It’s inspiring just to see the influence a few encouraging words can have on young people who really want to develop their passion for music. It’s amazing to realize that a lot of the younger kids I teach have never seen anyone play a live wind instrument before their eyes!”
Richie Canatta has worked with Billy Joel, Celine Dion, Jennifer Lopez, the Beach Boys, Bernie Williams and the list goes on. This New Yorker, born and raised in Brooklyn then Long Island has music in his blood. Richie Cannata studied classical piano growing up, but it doesn’t stop there. He also studied the clarinet, flute, keyboards, and saxophone with the tenor saxophone being his forte.
In the 1970’s & 80’s Richie performed and toured with Billy Joel. The famous sax solos you remember from Billy jJoel’sincredible hit songs were the iconic solos coming from Richie’s tenor sax.
During the mid 1990’s Richie toured with the Beach Boys. In his experience with them he also worked with John Stamos as he and the Beach Boys would appear on the hit sitcom, “Full House” together. “John Stamos was always fun and made my performances memorable. The best episode for me was with Little Richard and then again all the episodes were fantastic.” He recently also contributed to Brian Wilson’s new CD.
